Union and ministry in talks to resolve court dispute

The Public Service Association (PSA) has suspended lightning strikes at the country’s courts as talks between the union and the Ministry of Justice resume.

The PSA says the lightning strikes have been put on hold until at least next Thursday (29 November) when mediation takes place with senior ministry staff.

An initial meeting took place on Monday to discuss the resumption of negotiations.

“There is a common desire to prepare sufficiently for our upcoming mediation meeting to give it the best chance of success,” the PSA says.

While the lightning strikes have been suspended, PSA members will continue the partial strike action of work bans and work-to-rule activities until an agreement is reached.

The PSA says sticking points for its members remain an increase in the base pay offer and removal of the performance pay system.

“These measured actions have been having a known impact and have only been taken as a last resort,” it says.
