Michael Lekau has a deceased client with your name

18 September 2016

An old attempted email fraud has resurfaced in New Zealand, with an email from someone calling themselves "Michael Lekau, attorney".

The fraudsters pretend that the email recipient has a name similar to their "deceased client" and suggest the recipient pretends to be related, and everyone can get rich.

Subject: I emailed earlier and have not received a response

Good day,

I am Michael Lekau, an attorney. I emailed earlier and have not received a response from you yet. In my first email I mentioned about Daniel, a deceased client I represented in the past. I am unable to find any of his family members but both of you bear the same last name so it will be easy to present you as his official closest relative. I am compelled to do this because I would not want the Finance Institution to assert ownership of my clients funds as theirs due to it being unclaimed. If you are interested you do let me know so that I can give you Comprehensive details on what we are to do.

Michael Lekau.
