About the role

Are you passionate about the power that high-quality communications can have as a force for good? Do you want a role that offers variety across subject matter, audience, channels and content type?

Our Communications Advisor role offers an exciting opportunity to build on the foundations that have been laid for a new way of delivering internal communications. Our new intranet site Manawa offers new opportunities for how our staff make connections, find out important information and celebrate success. As the Communications Advisor you will take the lead on internal communications, supported by an excellent team dedicated to helping you thrive.

As well as internal communications you’ll also have the opportunity to work on developing and delivering communications campaigns, editing and providing content for our weekly e-newsletter to 15,000 lawyers and creating longer form articles for our quarterly magazine LawTalk.

We’re not looking for a communications guru here – you don’t need to know everything. What you will need is bags of enthusiasm, a creative mindset, dedication to developing new skills and the ability to work as part of a high-performing team.

This is a full-time role but there may be some flexibility in hours for the right applicant. The role is an excellent development opportunity, whether this will be your first role in communications or the change you’re looking for to try new things in a fast-paced environment.

It is important that the Law Society can attract, support, and retain quality staff and one of the ways we can achieve this is by offering employees the flexibility to manage their work/life balance. We embrace flexible working to support our staff to deliver their best and achieve a good work life balance.

The ideal applicant will have:

  • Understanding of communications best practise coupled with a willingness to learn
  • Knowledge of how good internal communications can help an organisation meet its goals
  • Strong digital skills with evidence of how you use those to deliver communications content
  • Excellent communication skills, combined with an ability to write both short and long form articles
  • The ability to build and maintain effective relationships
  • A willingness to try new things and take an innovative approach to communications

Diversity and inclusion are important to us and the Law Society is keen to ensure that appointments reflect Aotearoa New Zealand’s multicultural society. Applications from a diverse range of backgrounds are encouraged.
