About the Law Society

The New Zealand Law Society | Te Kāhui Ture o Aotearoa is the professional body for barristers and solicitors in New Zealand. The Law Society regulates all lawyers practising in New Zealand and is the membership organisation for practising lawyers. With 13 branch offices throughout the country, the Law Society is the Kaitiaki (guardian) of the practise of law in Aotearoa New Zealand and the consumers of legal services.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced professional to join our Regulatory department and provide management oversight of the Law Society’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) rules and guidelines. The appointee will oversee the effective administration and continuous improvement of all aspects of:

  • Continuing Professional Development programs
  • Regulatory requirements

This is an excellent opportunity to implement initiatives to ensure continuous improvement in the departments processes while delivering quality and effective service to internal and external stakeholders.

To be successful in this role you must have demonstrated ability to interpret and meet regulatory and compliance requirements, work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, and be committed to ongoing process improvement and quality provision of service.

This is a permanent part-time position working 22.5 hours per week. It is important that the Law Society can attract, support, and retain quality staff and one of the ways we can achieve this is by offering employees the flexibility to manage their work/life balance. The ideal applicant will:

  • be passionate about promoting the scheme, be committed to it, and to encouraging lawyers to commit to it
  • possess, or be able to rapidly develop, a good understanding of and empathy with the legal profession and how it is regulated
  • possess or be able to develop, a deep understanding of, and empathy with, the CPD rules and the philosophy and approach underpinning the CPD scheme.
  • Excellent management and administrative skills, and be a pro-active self-starter and organiser who can meet deadlines
  • A pro-active “can-do” approach and a willingness to pitch in and undertake work on all levels – to do what must be done to finish the job, be it big or small, high-level or routine
