Wellington Water is our region’s water infrastructure manager, responsible for the precious taonga that we need to protect for future generations. They provide both strategic guidance and operational excellence in their role as trusted advisor, for owner councils, mana whenua and customers.

Wellington Water has established a Company Secretary role to address steadily building governance requirements. The governance of three waters across the Wellington metropolitan area and across the South Wairarapa, is undertaken by the Wellington Water Board and the Wellington Water Committee, the latter made up of individual Councillors or Mayors from each shareholding council.

Reporting to the CEO of Wellington Water, your role is to primarily support and facilitate the Company’s Board and Water Committee in their decision making. You will improve the governance system, build quality relationships and support high quality decision making. You will act as a point of connectivity between the governance structure and the Wellington Water organisation. You can sit on leadership team meetings, enabling you to remain current across all operational and strategic activity. You will act as Principal Advisor to the CEO and have responsibility for a breath of compliance, reporting and communications within the company secretary function, with the support of one administrative assistant.

The successful applicant will be an experienced individual who will enjoy working alongside Directors and Council leaders. You must be passionate about engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, have very strong oral and written communication skills, be scrupulous about detail and be passionate about best practice corporate governance and quality decision making. You will hold a relevant tertiary qualification, ideally in law, and have experience working in a relevant company secretarial or governance role. In addition, you must be passionate about the continuous improvement of governance systems, with an eye to making governance affairs more transparent and more accessible to stakeholders and the general public. Experience in governance is desirable, but individuals with relevant skills/experience, who are seeking a move into this type of role, will also be considered.
