The Crown Law Office invites applications from suitably qualified lawyers for the position of Deputy Solicitor General in the Crown Law Office in Rarotonga.  

The Crown Law Office provides legal services to the government, including the King’s Representative, the Prime Minister, Cabinet, government departments and statutory bodies.

Working in the Crown Law Office provides a unique opportunity to practice in a friendly and supportive environment across a diverse range of practice areas, including legislative drafting, commercial and contract law, litigation, criminal prosecutions, international law and public law. 

The position requires 10+ years’ experience in providing legal advice in any of: public, commercial, civil, criminal and regulatory matters, as well as conducting litigation (civil and/or criminal).  The successful applicant will also be required to assist with the legislative drafting programme.

The Deputy Solicitor General will be required to assist the Solicitor General in the overall administration and management of the Crown Law Office, including the supervision and mentoring of staff. Qualifications and/or experience in administration and management would be advantageous.

The successful applicant will be offered a 2 year contract with an option to renew.
