About the role

Based in Auckland with a hybrid working model, this is a full-time role for an accomplished and commercially savvy General Counsel and Company Secretary who wants to be part of a diverse company that provides a wide range of technology services and solutions across a variety of industries. Reporting to the CEO and leading one direct report, here is your opportunity to join this innovative market leader in a demanding yet rewarding General Counsel role.

You will provide legal and commercial advice to the ELT and wider business. Like the business it serves, this role requires breadth and depth. You will traverse M&A, commercial negotiations, governance, risk management and enjoy the challenge of a great breadth of BAU legal work across multiple areas including technology, general commercial, property, insurance, and privacy.

Your strong commitment to professional and personal excellence combined with your commercial nous, will ensure you assess issues from a commercial perspective to contribute to the strategic objectives and overall development and growth of the business.

You will represent the business to key stakeholders, regularly interacting with industry bodies, central and local government, customers, suppliers, and a wide variety of other stakeholders. Well supported as a key member of this collaborative ELT, you will ensure that the Legal & Risk function continues to thrive.

What we’re looking for

  • A strong LLB degree with upwards of 8 years’ corporate and commercial law experience and a current New Zealand legal practising certificate
  • Previous inhouse experience preferred
  • A background in telecommunications, ICT/cyber, construction/infrastructure and/or property is beneficial but not essential
  • An effective listener and confident communicator with good relationship building skills
  • A values-centric collaborative leader with commercial nous and a growth mindset
