Manukau Public Defence Service
Are you passionate about criminal law?
The Manukau PDS has entered a new and exciting phase of its history with the appointment of a new Public Defender and Senior Management team.
We are now looking for junior lawyers to join our outstanding team - the largest criminal defence office in New Zealand. Our office serves the most diverse community in New Zealand and we particularly welcome applicants who reflect that community.
We are looking for junior lawyers from recently admitted graduates with a current practising certificate who are beginning their career to those with up to 24 months' post admission experience, who have a strong desire to develop their career in the specialist area of criminal advocacy. We welcome those new or returning to criminal law.
You will find challenge and satisfaction with a varied case-load, from supporting tasks and research for more senior lawyers, to judge-alone trials and appearances. You will have expert, talented and respected colleagues around who will mentor you and support your development to the next level of your career. The PDS is well known for its comprehensive professional development programme in criminal litigation and is considered an excellent training ground.
The PDS provides high quality legal advice and representation in a full range of criminal cases. Aimed at helping people access justice, the PDS promotes the values of integrity, teamwork, accountability, resilience and the delivery of excellent service to its clients.
There is always something new to learn which contributes positively to my experience as a Junior Lawyer, this is due to the variety of cases that PDS undertake and the supervision and support that is available to us. PDS is a fantastic training ground for new lawyers. (Sophia)
