The scale of the Three Waters reform programme means you’ll work as a member of a handpicked team that is working across a range of challenging issues critical to reform implementation - spanning areas of corporate governance and management, pricing and economic regulation, infrastructure planning and investment, and system stewardship and monitoring. Right now, we’re seeking two Lead Legal Advisers to join us on a fixed term role within our Finance and Commercial Team. You’ll be leading a small team of lawyers to provide a range of high-quality advice on legal issues for the Three Waters Reform Programme. The team’s role is to ensure the legal and commercial risk in the establishment of the new water service entities, and the transfer of assets from the local authorities to these new entities, is appropriately managed.

As well as giving general legal advice on tricky issues, the two Lead Legal Advisers will each be responsible for one of the following areas:

  • Leading the legal work on the Relationship Agreements and SLAs, including drafting schedule templates and advising on their completion
  • Leading the legal work on splitting the mixed-use contracts held by the Councils and working with the Senior Property Specialist, and external legal advisors, in relation to transfers of other assets, liabilities and other matters

If you have the following skills and experience, we would really like to hear from you:

  • In depth experience with large commercial transactions, including due diligence processes, and mergers or transfers of assets, functions, or corporate entities
  • Great people skills, and the ability to build working relationships across an organisation with key internal and external stakeholders
  • You’ll enjoy mentoring Junior Solicitors and working together to as part of a team deliver ambitious goals. This could be an opportunity to step into management
  • 7-10 years PQE and experience in both public and private practice
  • You’ll enjoy working on complex legal issues in a fast moving project/programme environment
