Legal Counsel (12 Months' Parental Leave Cover) – Auckland

New Zealand Winegrowers (NZW) are looking for an in-house Legal Counsel (12 months' fixed-term parental leave cover) to join our tight knit, high performing team.

The Legal Counsel will be responsible for supporting and assisting the General Manager Advocacy & General Counsel (GMA) and the Senior Legal Counsel in the performance of their roles and delivery of NZW's advocacy and legal activities as part of the Advocacy team. 

As a key member of the advocacy group you will be: 

  • Building strong relationships with members, regulators and key stakeholders in the industry  
  • Maintaining positive strategic and working relationships with key Government departments 
  • Providing legal advice and services to the GMA, the NZW Board, subsidiaries and management team 
  • Assisting the GMA, as part of the Advocacy team to deliver the Advocacy Plan 
  • Assisting with team administration from time to time (e.g. website content, updates for winegrowers) 

 About you: 

  • You will have 1–3 years' PQE with exposure to regulations, policy writing and environmental law 
  • Be admitted to the New Zealand bar and be eligible to hold a New Zealand practising certificate  
  • Experience in general commercial law 
  • Have a can do attitude where you would like to grow your expertise in a specialised area 
  • Solid client facing skills and the personality to get along with all walks of life 
  • The ability to think and work autonomously and under pressure as no two days or queries are the same
