The New Zealand Law Society | Te Kāhui Ture o Aotearoa is the professional body for barristers and solicitors in New Zealand. The Law Society regulates all lawyers practising in New Zealand and is the membership organisation for practising lawyers. With 13 branch offices throughout the country, the Law Society is the Kaitiaki (guardian) of the practise of law in Aotearoa New Zealand and the consumers of legal services.

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced Regional Manager Northern to positively lead, develop and manage the staff and activities of the Lawyers Complaints Service in the North Island as well as our National Standards Committee team. You will be a champion for collaboration and will support teams to drive performance.

What you’ll be doing

  • Management and oversight of Team Leaders and staff responsible for the management of Standards Committees and complaint investigations
  • Ensuring cases are processed in accordance with the directions of standards committees, the Act and all regulations, practice notes and procedural manuals
  • Contribute to the national complaint’s management direction, and implementation of national strategy through the management, consideration and triaging of complaints and other related work
  • Contribute to the strategic operation of the Lawyers Complaints Service and reporting to the National Complaints Manager, GM Professional Standards, Chief Executive and Board
  • Work with the Regional Manager Southern ERS and contribute to the ongoing development of the Early Resolution Service
  • Oversight of the National Standards Committee teams.

This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. Our ideal candidate

  • Preferably a tertiary qualification in law or other relevant qualification
  • Strong ability for legal analysis
  • Ability to lead, mentor and develop a team
  • Ability to provide precise advice and take a strategic approach when required.
  • A high standard of written and oral communication skills is essential.
  • Written skills must include the ability to produce concise, well-structured, and well-reasoned material.
