Senior Legal Counsel

At Lodestone Energy we’re in the business of building grid-scale solar farms and offering innovative supply arrangements to support the decarbonisation of the New Zealand energy system.

Our company purpose is to accelerate Aotearoa’s electrification by leading the way in building and operating renewable energy assets safely, working with the best technology and partners - for the benefit of our customers and communities.

Our first solar farms in Kaitaia and Edgecumbe are operational with  another under construction and due for completion this year. Four more are planned to get the green light this year and a large portfolio of other sites are in development. We are also quickly developing innovative and market-leading supply arrangements to support the increasing scale of our generation.

This exceptional growth brings opportunity - we are looking for the next person to join our in-house legal team. This is a unique opportunity to be involved in the development and delivery of industry leading energy projects. This role has plenty of variety and will include the following:

  • Supporting the GM Legal in providing commercially focused legal, strategic and regulatory advice;
  • The opportunity to work closely with and learn from an exceptional team of highly regarded and experienced industry professionals at Board and Management level;
  • Negotiating, preparing and reviewing contracts covering a wide variety of areas including property, construction, equipment and plant supply, electricity connection, hedge contracts, banking and finance, consultant engagements and general commercial;
  • Liaising with specialist external counsel to deliver projects as required;
  • Assisting the GM Legal in governance and company secretarial matters;
  • Developing strong working relationships with key stakeholders.

What you’ll bring to the role….

  • A law degree and current New Zealand practicing certificate;
  • At least 3-7 years PQE – private practice or in-house;
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • A pragmatic approach, along with strong communication skills;
  • Excellent contractual drafting and interpretation skills, including proven ability to draft documents and demonstrate sound knowledge of New Zealand contract and commercial law;
  • You’ll have a good sense of humour, be resilient, confident and optimistic and enjoy working at pace;
  • You’ll ideally have experience or a strong interest in property, commercial and/or corporate law;
  • Experience in the energy or utilities sector would be great but it’s not essential – although an interest in the sector is important!
