About the role
An exciting opportunity has just opened up for a Solicitor to join the Council legal team. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, you will provide legal advice and services across Council, making for a varied role where no day is the same.

About You
We are looking for someone who has a focus on client service and solutions. Your ability to build solid working relationships coupled with a natural effective communication style will mean you will be successful in this role.

Contract and document preparation and review is a core function of role, whilst also giving advice on various matters relating to the Local Government Act, Local Government and Official Information and Meetings Act, Reserves Act and other legislation.

You will attend council & committee meetings and be across amended or proposed legislation and issues that affect local government.

The successful candidate will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Bachelor of Laws & Completed Legal Professionals
  • Have initiative and be a self-starter
  • Ability to adapt to and learn new technologies
  • Have well developed research skills, excellent drafting and writing skills and oral communication skills
  • Have an aptitude for any one or more of the following areas: property law, commercial law, administrative law, resource management law and Building Act, and Local Government legislation
