Position Overview

Gurnell Harrison Stanley Law (GHS) is a law firm focused on Property and Commercial Law. We also have a strong base of general legal work. We have a busy established legal practice and we need some help!

That’s where you come in. We are looking for a NZ qualified solicitor with 3+ years experience to support our Directors, our team, and our clients.

This is a full-time role with plenty of responsibility. In return you’ll have autonomy and flexibility.

We are a 3 Director firm based in Hamilton with a national client base. We have a team of 6 staff who help us serve our clients. Our 3 Directors have each paid dues at large law firms and now enjoy the rewards of smaller practice.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:
Solicitor (we can add a fancy title for the right person if titles float your boat)

  • Support the Directors move work out of their office.
  • Work productively, track and reach your KPI’s
  • Help our Graduate Solicitor with your time and knowledge.
  • Be available for our Legal Executives to assist with property transactions
  • Coordinate and manage your calendar
  • Complete the items on your to do lists.
  • Manage your email and your files in a tidy organised manner.
  • Identify, delegate, or handle any one-off projects that come up.
  • Other items and tasks as needed.


  • 3+ years of recent, full-time legal work reporting to one or more Directors / Partners.
  • Strong experience working in Property, Trusts and Commercial Law.
  • Other legal experience in General Private Practice (Wills, EPOA’s, Relationship Property).
  • Familiar with or quick to learn new technology applications.
  • Able to consistently understand and apply the law.
  • Ability to set goals and develop achievable timelines to hit them.
  • Highly developed self-awareness and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with clients and our team.
  • Able to make decisions quickly.
  • Ability to foster existing client relationships and win new clients.
