About the role

We have a great opportunity for a property professional to join our Strategic Property Team. The team is responsible for advising on Tauranga City Council's property investment/divestment decisions and leading strategic property projects that will help meet the city's growth and benefit our communities.

This role helps deliver professional property advisory services for Council, find innovative solutions to property/development issues, and enable our customers and stakeholders to meet their objectives. This will be a challenging and diverse role.

Our work includes property investigation and strategic advisory work regarding current and potential property interests. Our Strategic Property team is central to the delivery of key infrastructure and amenity projects, the optimisation of Council property and development opportunities, and in facilitating great places for our communities.

As a Strategic Property Advisoryou will help resolve complex or contentious property issues, lead a diverse range of property deals for Council, prepare reports and present at Council meetings, negotiate with property owners, developers, and other stakeholders, and engage with the community.

As we deal with various interests in land, you will need an appreciation for the Council's relationship with Tangata Whenua, be willing to engage with Tangata Whenua, and seek to understand kaupapa Maori within the Tauranga Moana area.

What you'll need to succeed

To succeed in this role, you will have sound property experience, such as valuation, development, planning, or a legal property background. This role requires a responsive and strategic approach, backed by solid technical knowledge. Experience in public works, local government, resource management, and reserves legislation, plus sale and purchase processes is desirable, but not essential. You will be skilled at developing and maintaining strong relationships and enjoy interacting with a wide range of people.
