Stephanie is a member of Canterbury Chambers, one of Christchurch’s leading set of barristers situated in outstanding central city premises.

Stephanie’s practice is principally in resolution of complex property claims arising on separation (including claims in respects of trusts) and estate claims.

Applicants should show an interest in and aptitude for the practice of family law, but no previous experience in this area is required. While gaining experience alongside Stephanie in her specialist area of practice, the junior barrister will be encouraged and supported to undertake a full range of family law work as part of their professional development.

The junior barrister will work closely with commercial lawyers, accountants and other experts as part of a team approach to resolution of the disputes. There is also the opportunity to work with another barrister in Chambers (particularly in Resource Management).

Applicants with the following skills and attributes will be preferred:

  • experience in civil litigation;
  • strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • ability to deliver sound and pragmatic legal advice;
  • a commercial approach to dispute resolution;
  • well organized; and
  • 2 – 5 years PQE (but experience outside of this will be considered).

The position is intended to allow the junior barrister an opportunity for mentoring and training for a term of no more than two years. The fixed term nature of the employment will provide a stepping-stone for the junior barrister to join the bar or to further develop their practice through other opportunities.
