Air New Zealand has an opportunity for a pragmatic and experienced employment lawyer to join our Workplace Relations Team which sits within the broader People Function. As a Workplace Relations Manager, you would report to the Head of Workplace Relations, and work closely with the Senior Workplace Relations Managers, the business and our human resources business partners to provide employment related legal solutions that deliver on our strategy to ensuring constructive and sustainable workplace relationships. You will also have an LLB degree (or higher), be admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand and have a current practicing certificate.

As Workplace Relations Manager you will:

  • Partner with business leaders and human resources business partners to create sustainable solutions on individual employee matters
  • Manage higher risk / complex workplace relations matters including disciplinary management, workplace investigations, and restructuring
  • Build collaborative and productive relationships with employees and unions implementing principles of collaboration
  • Monitor industrial relations within Air New Zealand
  • Manage external legal advice and cost
  • Provide litigation support and strategy with external legal advisors
  • Build Air New Zealand's capability in appropriately managing employee relations matters by supporting and coaching people managers and human resources business partners across the full ambit of employment law
  • Provide legal support in relation to collective bargaining including attending mediation, and facilitation on behalf of Air New Zealand
  • Actively participate in projects to develop new processes and process improvements

It will be your responsibility to ensure the ongoing commercial success of the businesses and enhance our positive culture by providing specialist, commercially attuned, engaging industrial and workplace relations advice on complex issues which support and drive the achievement of business plans and workplace strategies.

To be successful in this role, you will have a minimum of 4 years' legal experience. You will join us with in-depth working knowledge of New Zealand employment law, be up to date on legislative amendments, and have proven previous experience of managing and advising on workplace relations issues. Experience in collective environments is preferred, but not essential.

You will be a professional who can quickly gain credibility and the respect of both your close team and stakeholders across the business who you will work closely with. Your commercial acumen will enable you to effectively weigh up legal compliance and business/relationship risks when making recommendations.
