Associate Membership application for LENZ members

Eligibility

Members of Legal Executives New Zealand (LENZ) are eligible to join the New Zealand Law Society as associate members. They are exempt from the requirements of rule 3 of the New Zealand Law Society Rules for Associate Membership (rule 4(c)) available on our website lawsociety.org.nz/about-us/what-is-the-law-society/associate-membership/.


Benefits of associate membership of the New Zealand Law Society include:


• Receive member rates for NZLS CLE courses - seminars and workshops on a wide range of topics are presented at various venues throughout the country
• Receive the Law Society's weekly email newsletter
• Eligible for appointment to Law Society’s special committees
• Option to join Law Society’s Property and/or Family Law Sections

The annual associate membership fee of $101.00 is discounted to $28.00 for LENZ members.

Associate section membership

Family Law Section membership costs $243.75
Property Law Section associate membership costs $207 for the first member in a firm, and $172.50 for subsequent members (GST included).

Privacy and information handling

The information you provide helps the Law Society to process your application and enables the Law Society to carry out its regulatory and representative functions under the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006. The Law Society will collect, use, hold and disclose your personal information only for the purposes of processing your application, to compile a membership database, communicate with you and provide membership services. Only authorised staff will have access to your information which is held in a secure environment. The provision of information by you is voluntary. However, if you do not provide full information, the Law Society may not be able to progress your application.

As part of the LENZ membership process you have consented to LENZ and the Law Society sharing your name, contact and employment details and membership status for the purposes of the Law Society’s Associate Membership scheme for Registered Legal Executives throughout your membership of LENZ. We periodically confirm to LENZ the names and preferred contact details of Associate Members joining through their LENZ membership. The purpose of this is to enable us to check on-going eligibility under the Law Society’s Associate Membership scheme for LENZ members.

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you may request access to and request correction of your personal information held by the Law Society. This includes any information that we may collect while you are an Associate Member, such as attendance at events. For more information about the Law Society’s Privacy and Information Handling Policies please refer to www.lawsociety.org.nz/privacy. General information about the Privacy Act 2020 is also available on the website of the Privacy Commissioner at www.privacy.org.nz

I certify that:

  • I am a current Fellow, Associate or Affiliate member of LENZ and employed as a Registered Legal Executive;
  • I have not been convicted in any Court of any crime or offence (New Zealand Law Society Rules for Associate Membership, Rule 2.2(g)) (Minor traffic offences and any convictions you are entitled to conceal under the Criminal Records (Clean Slate) Act 2004 need not be referred to);
  • I have not been adjudged bankrupt OR made an assignment for the benefit of my creditors (Rule 2.2(g));
