Statistics on the workload of the Supreme Court show that there has been a steady fall over the last four years in the number of applications for leave to appeal.

The number of applications for leave in the 2018 calendar year were 119, which was down on 135 in 2017 and 179 in 2015.

The latest statistics provide more detail than statistics for past years, and show that of applications for leave to appeal filed in 2018, 59 were civil applications and 60 were criminal applications.

During 2018, the Court delivered 101 leave judgments, with 12 civil and 6 criminal applications granted leave to appeal, and 46 and 37 criminal applications for leave declined. Leave judgments delivered in a calendar year to not equate to applications for leave filed in a calendar year.
