Two Orders in Council have been made to specify the questions to be put to voters in the two referenda to be held this year at the General Election.
End of Life Choice Referendum Order 2020
The End of Life Choice Referendum Order 2020 was made on 23 March 2020 pursuant to section 8 of the Referndums Framework Act 2019. It comes into force on 23 April 2020.
The order declares that a referendum within the meaning of section 2(6) of the End of Life Choice Act 2019 is a referendum for the purposes of the Referendums Framework Act 2019.
Clause 4 states that the wording of the question to be put to electors in the referendum is: “Do you support the End of Life Choice Act 2019 coming into force?”

Clause 5 states that the wording of the two options for which electors may vote in response to the question is:
“Yes, I support the End of Life Choice Act 2019 coming into force.”
“No, I do not support the End of Life Choice Act 2019 coming into force.”
Cannabis Referendum Order 2020
The Cannabis Referendum Order 2020 was made on 23 March 2020 pursuant to section 8 of the Referendums Framework Act 2019. It comes into force on 23 April 2020.
The order states that a referendum on the question set out in clause 4 is a referendum for the purposes of the Referendums Framework Act 2019.
Clause 4 states that the wording of the question to be put to electors in the referendum is: “Do you support the proposed Cannabis Legalisation and Control Bill?”

“Yes, I support the proposed Cannabis Legalisation and Control Bill.”
“No, I do not support the proposed Cannabis Legalisation and Control Bill.”
