The Criminal Cases Review Commission will come into existence as an independent Crown entity on 3 April 2020.

The Criminal Cases Review Commission Act Commencement Order 2020 brings some provisions of the legislation which established the Commission into force on that day.

This includes section 7, establishing the Commission, section 8 which declares it to be a Crown Entity, section 49 which defines the legal status of Commission members and other provisions relating to Crown entities.

Unless there are further Orders in Council, the remainder of the Criminal Cases Review Commission Act 2019 will come into force on 1 July 2020.

On 24 February Justice Minister Andrew Little announced the members of the Commission, which will be chaired by Colin Carruthers QC.
