Parliament's Justice Committee has released a report on the Corrections Amendment Bill, saying it was unable to reach agreement on whether to recommend that the bill be passed as voting was tied.
The bill was introduced by Corrections Minister Kelvin Davis on 19 March 2018. It proposes amendments to the Corrections Act 2004 with the objective of improving the ability of the Department of Corrections to safely and humanely manage prisoners, improve prisoner discipline and safety, and ensure the fair treatment of prisoners.
The committee received 17 submissions on the bill.
