Law Society not behind request for multiple email addresses

This article is over 3 years old. More recent information on this subject may exist.

The New Zealand Law Society says it does not contact law firms or legal workplaces by phone to request email details for people working there.

The Law Society has been advised of phone contact with a law firm by someone purporting to be from the Law Society. The caller unsuccessfully requested email addresses for a list of the firm's staff.

The Law Society's Registry is currently processing renewals of practising certificates for the year commencing 1 July 2019. However, any detail checking is carried out through the firm administrator and would only possibly involve a single name.
