There were 55 complaints against licensed immigration advisers lodged with the Immigration Advisers Authority in the year to 30 June 2016.

In a report in its July newsletter, the Authority says 44 complaint investigations were completed during the year, with 80% completed within 115 working days. Of those completed, 19 were sent to the Immigration Advisers Complaints and Disciplinary Tribunal and 25 were closed by the Authority.

At 30 June 2016 there were 1091 licensed immigration advisers.

The Authority says it completed 232 inspections during the year of advisers based in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, China, Fiji, India, Israel, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates.

Of the completed inspections, 46 advisers were sent improvement letters on business practices and will be checked again at their next renewal.
