An Auckland lawyer has been suspended from practising for six months after admitting three charges.

The case against Brian Fox was before the New Zealand Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal.

Mr Fox admitted a charge of misconduct for defaulting on $18,582 of fines and costs orders made by Lawyers Standards Committees.

He admitted a charge of unsatisfactory conduct for failing to honour agreements with the New Zealand Law Society to pay that sum by way of monthly instalments.

Mr Fox also admitted a charge of unsatisfactory conduct for falsely representing that he had complied with Standards Committee orders when he renewed his practising certificate in the years 2013, 2014 and 2015.

In addition to being suspended for six months the Tribunal ordered Mr Fox to reimburse the $18,582 no later than 6 May 2018.

And he was also ordered to pay the New Zealand Law Society legal costs of $18,000 and reimburse the costs of the hearing.

Mr Fox’s six month suspension commences at 5pm on Friday 13 October 2017.
