Changes to Overseas Investment requirements for Australians

This article is over 3 years old. More recent information on this subject may exist.

Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) says the thresholds for Australian non-Government and Australian government investments are increasing.

The new thresholds for the period 1 January 2017 until the close of 31 December 2017 will be:

  • $501 million, if the investor is an Australian non-government investor; and
  • $105 million, if the investor is an Australian government investor.

These changes are made under the Overseas Investment Regulations 2005 (clauses 4 and 7 of Schedule 5). This clause includes the formulae to be used in calculating the adjustment. The amounts are adjusted each year, if the calculations produce an amount greater than the previous year.
