Chief Ombudsman releases new guides on protection of confidential advice

This article is over 3 years old. More recent information on this subject may exist.

The Chief Ombudsman has published a suite of new guides on the ‘good government’ withholding grounds under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) and the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA).

The guides relate to the protection of confidential advice to government and free and frank opinions.

There is also a guide explaining how the OIA applies to public policy making advice. The guides will help to make it easier for agencies to make good decisions on official information requests.
