The salaries and allowances for coroners have now been included in the determination covering all other judicial officers.
The Judicial Officers Salaries and Allowances (2019/20) Amendment Determination 2020 was made on 3 March 2020 and is deemed to have come into effect on 1 January 2020.
The amending determination amends the Judicial Officers Salaries and Allowances (2019/20) Determination 2019, which came into force on 1 October 2019 and specifies the salaries paid to judicial officers.
Previously the salaries and allowances of coroners were included in a separate annual determination known as the Coroners (Salaries and Superannuation) Determination. The Remuneration Authority has decided that as coroners are judicial officers, their salaires and allowances should be included in the principal determination which covers all other judicial officers whose remuneration is determined by the Authority.
The amending determination states that the yearly rate of salary payable to Chief Coroner on and after 1 January 2020 is $362,800. The salary payable to the Deputy Chief Coroner is $303,100, and the salary payable to a Coroner is $283,100.
Another amended determination, the Judicial Officers Superannuation Amendment Determination 2020, made on 3 March 2020 and deemed to have come into effect on 1 January 2020, includes coroners' superannuation entitlements in the Judicial Superannuation Determination 2019.
