Court of Appeal declines Gautam Jindal leave to appeal

The Court of Appeal has declined Gautam Jindal leave to appeal the High Court’s decision upholding the liability and penalty decisions of the New Zealand Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal (the Tribunal). The High Court agreed with the Tribunal that Mr Jindal had engaged in professional misconduct and that a six-month suspension was warranted. Mr Jindal unsuccessfully sought leave to appeal that decision from the High Court and the Court of Appeal. The suspension order had been stayed pending the appeal process and commenced on 2 June 2026.

A summary of the High Court’s decision can be found here: https://www.lawsociety.org.nz/news/newsroom/high-court-upholds-suspension-order-for-gautam-jindal/

An earlier version of this article noted the suspension would commence on 30 May 2026 but this was subsequently changed to 2 June 2026.
