The Department of Internal Affairs has released the dates and locations of 21 community meetings to be held around New Zealand for the Charities Act 2005 review.

The review has the objective of ensuring that the Act is effective and fit for purpose with enough flexibility to suit the diversity in the charitable sector.

The public meetings will be held between 6 March and 18 April and are seen as a valuable way to gain feedback from both the sector and the public.

The department says a  discussion document to support public consultation will be released in late February 2019. It says this will cover a range of issues set out in the review’s terms of reference and identified by key stakeholders.

This will include specific questions to help people share their experiences and views. The public will be able to give feedback on the discussion document through written submissions, the department says.
