The Ministry for Women has co-developed with the policy community Bringing Gender In, a gender analysis tool.

The tool helps policy practitioners explore the gender impacts of any policy as they move through the policy process.

The tool prompts thinking with key questions. It provides examples of good practice and links to useful data sources and other relevant material.

The ministry says gender analysis is a key part of quality policy analysis.

"Its purpose is to achieve positive change for women (and men and people who identify as gender diverse), and therefore, for communities and the economy more widely.

"While there has been progress in many areas, gender still systematically affects people’s social and economic wellbeing in many ways  along with age, ethnicity, disability, and other factors. Policies do not benefit everybody equally, and this needs to be identified and mitigated against."
