Junior lawyers sought for China delegation

Expressions of interest are being sought from junior New Zealand lawyers who want to participate in the Young Lawyers China Delegation 2018.

A delegation of five junior lawyers (graduates up to 4 years PQE) will travel to Beijing and Shanghai from 13 to 22 August 2018 to learn first-hand about Chinese legal practice, history and culture. The visit is being organised by the New Zealand China Friendship Society.

Delegates will develop cultural competence through workshops, seminars and networking opportunities with global and local firms in China, and with world-renowned universities.

The preliminary itinerary includes events and seminars hosted by the New Zealand Embassy in Beijing and the Consultate in Shanghair, round table discussi8ons with the Chinese University of Politics and Law, Beijing, meetings with New Zealand legal professionals in China, and day trips to places of cultural significance.

Obtaining travel insurance and a Chinese visa will be the responsibility of successful applicants, and the cost to individual delegates is estimated to be around $2,000 per person (to be confirmed upon finalisation of the itinerary).

Expressions of interest (maximum of one page) and CV (maximum of two pages) should be sent to chinalawyerstour2018@gmail.com on or before 5pm on 18 May 2018.

The expression of interest should address:

  • Why you want to go.
  • What you expect to get out of the delegation.
  • How you will use this opportunity to benefit the legal profession.

Previous China experience and langauge skills are not required.
