The Ministry of Justice says it is updating the mileage rate for legal aid providers, to align with the Inland Revenue Department rate.

It says the new rate is $0.76 per kilometre, for all vehicles including electric cars. The ministry says IRD has not re-issued a separate rate for electric cars.

The new rate will apply to all legal aid invoices received from 3 September 2018, but claims received after 3 September at the old rate "can still be processed as claimed".
