The Charities Registration Board has declined Nelson Grey Power Association Incorporated's registration to be a Charity as the society fails to advance exclusively charitable purposes.
The Board says Nelson Grey Power's "broad advocacy for points of view on issues of concern" and its support for the Grey Power New Zealand Federation, which does not have exclusively charitable purposes, means its activities cannot be considered for the public benefit in the charitable sense.
In publishing a statement on its decision, the Board reiterated it does not take a position on whether or not the viewpoints of Nelson Grey Power or the Grey Power Federation are of benefit for New Zealand, rather the society's eligibility for registration under the Charities Act 2005.
