This article is over 3 years old. More recent information on this subject may exist.

Legislation amending the law relating to enduring powers of attorney came into effect on 16 March 2017.

The Statutes Amendment Act 2016 makes changes to the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act 1988, and requires new forms to be used from 16 March.

At 8:00am on 20 March the new amendments had not been incorporated into the New Zealand Legislation online reprint of the 1988 Act.

The Protection of Personal and Property Rights (Enduring Powers of Attorney Forms and Prescribed Information) Amendment Regulations 2017 are now available.

The new forms which are required to be used from 16 March have now been made available on the "Super Seniors" website.

Seniors Minister Maggie Barry says the changes to the forms will make them easier to understand and use.

The New Zealand Law Society has revised and updated its guide on Powers of Attorney. This may be purchased in hardcopy or downloaded free of charge online.
