Parliament's Commerce Committee has released a report on the Energy Innovation (Electric Vehicles and Other Matters) Amendment Bill with a recommendation that it be passed with amendments.

The bill aims to encourage energy innovation, such as emerging energy technologies and increased variation in energy-related business models, so New Zealand can respond to its environmental and energy objectives.

It would amend the Electricity Industry Act 2010, the Energy (Fuels, Levies, and References) Act 1989, the Land Transport Act 1998, and the Road User Charges Act 2012.

The bill was referred to the committee on 8 November 2016, with submissions closing on 1 February 2017. The committee received and considered 40 submissions from interested groups and individuals.
