The Officers of Parliament Committee has recommended that Peter Francis Boshier be appointed as an Ombudsman for a five-year term effective from 10 December 2015.

The committee has also recommended that he be appointed Chief Ombudsman on the resignation of Dame Beverley Wakem. Dame Beverley has been Chief Ombudsman since 23 November 2007 and has indicated her intention to resign towards the end of 2015.

Judge Boshier's appointment as Chief Ombudsman would be effective from the date on which Dame Beverley resigns.

After obtaining a LLB(Hons) from Victoria University of Wellington in 1975 he practised in Wellington until his appointment as a District Court Judge in 1988. He was appointed Principal Family Court Judge in 2004 and was in that role until December 2012.
