Former lawyer Jane Searle has been appointed the new chief executive of the child advocacy organisation Child Matters.

Ms Searle worked as a barrister and solicitor practising criminal and family law before joining the New Zealand Police where she worked in the child abuse team as a detective.

She has spent the last two years as general manager of Child Matters.
