Judge Becroft reappointed Children's Commissioner

Children’s Commissioner Judge Andrew Becroft has had his appointment extended until 30 June 2021.

“Judge Becroft has been doing an exemplary job as an advocate for the wellbeing of children and young people since 2016,” Social Development Minister Carmel Sepuloni says. “I am pleased that he has agreed to stay on as Children’s Commissioner."

Judge Becroft graduated BA and LLB(Hons) from the University of Auckland in 1981 and practised until 1986 when he helped establish the Mangere Community Law Centre. He worked there until 1993 when he moved to practise as a criinal barrister. He was appointed a District Court Judge in 1996 and was based in Whanganui until 2001 when he became Principal Youth Court Judge.

He was appointed the Children’s Commissioner for an initial two year period from June 2016.
