Nick Scott Joins Lowndes Jordan as Special Counsel

Experienced corporate law practitioner Nick Scott has joined corporate and commercial law firm Lowndes Jordan as Special Counsel.

Nick Scott

Formerly a partner in the corporate and commercial team of Dentons Kensington Swan, Nick brings more than 35 years’ experience in corporate and commercial law. He specialises in M&A and takeovers, helping clients buy and sell businesses, and has particular expertise advising insurers on M&A warranty insurance placement.

In addition to his M&A work, Nick advises a wide range of commercial clients on the Financial Markets Conduct Act, New Zealand Stock Exchange issues, directors’ duties and liabilities, franchise law and the effects of international sanctions on commercial contracts. Over his career he has demonstrated particular expertise in helping resolve shareholder and board disputes and assisting start-ups with legal and compliance requirements, from equity structure and governance to shareholder agreements.

Nick holds an LLB/BCom (Accounting) from the University of Otago. He is also a member of the New Zealand Chapter of the Entrepreneurs’ Organisation, and Chairman of the Board of Northbridge Lifecare Trust.

“At Lowndes Jordan, clients work directly with senior practitioners who understand their business,” says Nick. “In my new role I will be able to have a more direct and personal relationship with my clients, which is what I enjoy. For someone advising on M&A and complex commercial matters, that’s a rewarding environment.”

In 2024 and 2025 the International Financial Law Review recognised Nick as a notable practitioner in M&A in its IFLR 1000 awards. The IFLR 1000 is the only international legal research product that ranks firms and lawyers on transactional work alone.

Nick’s arrival broadens Lowndes Jordan’s capability in corporate transactions, adding a practitioner with cross‑border experience to the team.

Nick’s arrival is the third senior appointment the firm has made since August 2025, following the addition of Alicia Murray, a litigation partner with specialist expertise in competition and insolvency law, and the elevation of Dasha Kovalenko-Gormack to lead its property team.

The current partnership includes Mike Busch, Sarah Kerr, Duncan Coats, and Rick Shera in the corporate and commercial team, Karl Stolberger and Alicia Murray in litigation, and Dasha Kovalenko-Gormack leading property. Together they cover a wide range of sectors - from technology and cybersecurity to insolvency, M&A to capital markets, privacy to property, and private equity to maritime and transport.
