Employment law specialist Parvez Akbar has been appointed chief executive of the Fiji Accident Compensation Commission.

Mr Akbar completed an LLB at Bond University in Australia in 1994 and began legal practice in Fiji. After seven years of practice he migrated to New Zealand in 2002 and worked in employment law until 2004 when he began work with the Employers and Manufacturers Association as a senior solicitor.

In 2011 he joined Westpac New Zealand Ltd as Head of Employment Law and Employment Relations, before moving to New Zealand Post in 2013 as Head of Employment Relations and Safety and Wellbeing. He left to establish NZER Consulting Ltd in January 2016 before taking up his new role in Fiji.
