Simpson Western announces promotions

Simpson Western has promoted Ashleigh Watt and Ellen Snedden to Principal, while Louise Fryer and Sam Wood have been promoted to Senior Solicitor.

Ashleigh Watt began her career as a graduate at Simpson Grierson, where she spent four years before moving to Meredith Connell. She joined Simpson Western in 2019 and has since built a diverse practice spanning private wealth, estate planning, elder law and asset protection, advising on high-value and complex private client matters. She also manages Simpson Western's estate administration practice and is an associate member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). Ashleigh was appointed to the NZLS Standards Committee in 2025 for a three-year term. 

Ellen Snedden joined Simpson Western in 2019, having spent the previous seven years at Smith & Partners. She holds expertise across all areas of family law, particularly those involving children, family violence, and complex disputes arising under the PPPR Act regarding capacity and disputes between attorneys. She also enjoys her practice within the relationship property area. Ellen has been on The Law Association Family Law Committee for many years, contributing to CPD planning and events.

Louise Fryer joined Simpson Western in 2025 in its commercial property team. She has over 13 years' experience as a Legal Executive, working predominantly at Steindle Williams where she completed her law degree. Louise was admitted to the High Court as a Solicitor in July 2025 and supports Simpson Western’s commercial property team on complex leasing and development work.  

Sam Wood began his career at Simpson Western as a graduate before undertaking further post-graduate study in Urban Planning. He subsequently joined the RMA team at Buddle Findlay. He then worked at Auckland Council as an urban planner within the City Centre team, before returning to Simpson Western in 2026 to join the litigation team.
