The new overseas investment regime comes into effect on 22 October, meaning overseas people generally will not be able to buy residential land in New Zealand unless they have a residence class visa and intend to live here.
From 22 October, a Residential Land Statement will be required for every residential land sale.

Online eligibility tool
New Zealand Immigration has released a new online eligibility tool. This can be used by people based overseas or their advisers to determine whether they can buy or build on residential land, and how to apply for consent from the Overseas Investment Office.
