The Law Society embraces technology to improve membership services

The New Zealand Law Society Te Kāhui Ture o Aotearoa launched the first phase of its new member services portal, Law Society Connect, on 22 October. This marks a significant step forward in how the Law Society delivers its Representative services, with a focus on accessibility and evolving to meet the needs of the profession.

What is Law Society Connect?

Law Society Connect is a one-stop-shop for accessing Law Society events and membership benefits. Designed to offer a more integrated and user-friendly experience, the portal allows lawyers to register for events, track CPD activities and manage membership preferences all in one place.

While Law Society Connect supports Representative services, lawyers should continue to use Registry for Regulatory functions, such as practising certificate renewals and CPD declarations.

What are the benefits?

Smarter event management

Section and branch events will be managed through Law Society Connect. From here, lawyers can browse upcoming events using new search filters for location and date. Registrations can be made on behalf of colleagues or as a group, streamlining coordination for firm administrators.

Streamlined payments

Lawyers and firm administrators can register and pay for events directly through Law Society Connect, Having payment options in one place simplifies the process, reduces administrative overhead and provides a clearer paper trail to help avoid errors or missed payments.

CPD tracking

Certificates that verify attendance at section and branch events are automatically tracked by Law Society Connect under ‘My CPD,’ making it easier for lawyers to keep a record of time spent on CPD-eligible activities. This reduces the need for manual tracking and provides a reliable record of activities, with no more digging through email inboxes to find CPD certificates.

Membership management made easy

Lawyers can use Law Society Connect to manage their membership preferences at any time, whether that is signing up for the first time or updating membership type. Law Society Connect provides easy access to other membership benefits, including details about the Partnership Programme, which offers discounts and services such as LawSure.

Future of Law Society Connect

Law Society Connect is in its initial launch stage, with the base model set to evolve over time to further improve functionality and Representative service delivery. These updates reflect the Law Society’s ongoing commitment to supporting the profession with modern tools.
