Jonathan’s expertise is in health law, professional regulation and discipline, and public law. Jonathan is a health sector lawyers having specialised in the sector since the mid-1990s.

A litigation lawyer since 1993, he was previously a litigation partner with Buddle Findlay before establishing Claro, a specialist health sector law firm, in 2012. His PhD thesis considered the regulation of medical practitioners in New Zealand.

Jonathan has undertaken a number of independent investigations and reviews. In 2025 he completed the Institute programme of the Association of Workplace Investigators in Nashville, USA.

Jonathan has a national practice. In addition to Britomart Chambers he is a member of Canterbury Chambers, Christchurch.
