MinterEllisonRuddWatts appoints Mike Grenfell as Chief Information Officer

MinterEllisonRuddWatts has appointed Mike Grenfell as Chief Information Officer, effective August 2026.

Grenfell brings more than 15 years of C-suite experience, primarily in financial services, with experience leading large-scale transformation programmes and embedding digital and AI capabilities to support business performance. 

The appointment reflects the firm’s focus on technology development, with Grenfell expected to contribute to its digital and AI strategy and ensuring continued investment in platforms that support both its people and clients. 

About Mike Grenfell 

As Chief Operating Officer at Heartland Bank, Grenfell led a technology transformation programme that including core banking migration, implementation of new digital solutions and transition to cloud-based platforms. He oversaw technology and operations during a period of significant change, managing a team of more than 200 people. 

Previously, as Chief Information Officer at the New Zealand Automobile Association, he led the organisation’s digital transformation strategy, supporting more than 1.7 million members across over 100 locations. His work introduced new technologies and Agile ways of working.

Earlier in his career, Grenfell spent nine years at Cigna in several senior roles, including Chief Operating Officer, Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Information Officer, where he led the launch of new products and digital sales capabilities. 

At MinterEllisonRuddWatts, he will lead IT strategy, accelerate digital and AI initiatives, and ensure technology investments align with the firm’s broader business and client objectives.
