Auckland-based Public Defence Service lawyer Hermann Retzlaff has been appointed Attorney-General for Samoa.

Mr Retzlaff takes up his position on 18 April 2016. His father, Telefoni Retzlaff, was Attorney-General for Samoa from 1986 to 1988.

Admitted in December 2003, Mr Retzlaff has worked in the Auckland, Manukau and Waitakere offices of the Public Defence Service as a senior lawyer. On his appointment as Attorney-General he was Acting Deputy Public Defender on the North Shore.

Mr Retzlaff is a board member of the Waitemata Community Law Centre and a past-president of the Pacific Lawyers Association.
