Auckland lawyer Hugo Farmer has been awarded the 2014 Honourable Rex Mason Prize for Excellence in Legal Writing.
The prize, which was established in 1973, is awarded for the best legal article published in a calendar year. It commemorates former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Henry Greathead Rex Mason (1885-1975).
Mr Farmer is a Solicitor at Auckland law firm Russell McVeagh. He received the $1,000 prize for his entry An analysis of New Zealand's abortion law system and a guide to reform, published in the Public Interest Law Journal of New Zealand at pages 147 to 168.
The 2014 award was judged by Supreme Court Justice Sir William Young, Brenda Midson and Professor Mark Hickford. It was presented in Wellington on 12 November 2015.
