Senior banking and financial services partner Lloyd Kavanagh has been elected chair of Minter Ellison Rudd Watts effective from 1 January 2017.

Mr Kavanagh will take over from Cathy Quinn, who has been chair of the firm for eight years.

He has served on the Minter Ellison Rudd Watts board since 2010. Graduating with an LLB from the University of Otago, he was admitted as a barrister and solicitor in December 1984. Mr Kavanagh is a Fellow the Institute of Finance Professionals New Zealand (INFINZ) Securities Law Review Working Group and a Member of the Institute of Directors.
