Herman Visagie has become New Zealand Law Society Vice-President (central North Island), replacing Tiana Epati. He was declared elected at the Law Society Council meeting on 10 April as he was the only nominee for the position. He works as General Counsel and Chief of Staff for TSB Bank in New Plymouth.
Born in South Africa, his family came to New Zealand when he was nine and he grew up in south Otago. He obtained BCom and LLB degrees from the University of Otago. He worked in Wellington as an analyst for the Ministry for Economic Development from 2009 to 2012, and was Associate Director – Policy with the New Zealand Bankers Association from 2012 to 2014.
Herman moved to New Plymouth to work with TSB Bank and was appointed to his current role in September 2018. He has been involved with the in-house lawyers’ section ILANZ since 2016 and is a member of the Law Society’s Taranaki branch Council.
